The Art of Gratitude

Gratitude can help lift you out of a funk, a dip, a backslide, or a bump in your road. It can happen QUICK too.

When we focus on a few simple things that we feel grateful for it is remarkable how it can snowball. It programs the brain to find more and more to be grateful for. It is a game changer!

This simple but profound practice can change your life. As we come toward the end of the year, it's a beautiful time to reflect on the past year and see what is there that you feel grateful for. Each day, I write down three things I'm grateful for in the morning and evening. Let me share what that looks like with you — it can inspire you to make the practice your own. Feel free to change it up!

A Daily Gratitude Journal

Here’s what this practice of GRATITUDE looks like in my life:

  1. Each morning, I set my intention for the day.

  2. I also write down how I'd like to feel, something I'd like to enjoy, and something I'd like to get done.

  3. After that, I write down 3 things I'm grateful for. It can be anything that comes to me at the moment. The birds singing outside, a sunny day, my family, my friends, nature, coffee, yoga, hiking, campfires, the sound of the wind in the pines.

  4. In the evening, I add another 3 things I'm grateful for with my evening journal — it might be things that happened that day — when I'm unwinding for the evening.

What would work for you? Try it out for yourself for a few days and see what it can do for you.

Two rules for success…

  1. Try to find different things to be grateful for each day. I LOVE the birdsongs so much that I add that one pretty frequently, but never the SAME three things. Its about the practice of FEELING it. Inevitably, more and more come, lifting me into a very relaxed and good-feeling state.

  2. Keep it simple so it’s manageable to begin. This makes it more likely its something you'll stick with.

Please comment and tell me how your gratitude practice impacts your life and lifts you!
