It’s Shoulder Season
Welcome Spring! Where ARE you??
Happy first day of meteorological Spring!
Here we are in the "shoulder season" of Spring.
It's March 1st today, and according to the meteorological calendar, today is the first day of Spring. Here in Minnesota, you'd never know it, though, because all I see outside is snow, slush, and ice! This morning I woke up to snow and ice falling from the sky!
Ah, yes, shoulder season. The in-between time between Winter and Spring.
Certain parts of the country are already in full spring mode, with flowers blooming, leaves appearing, and a deepening of green all around!
Things here are actually happening, but we can't see them because the things that are happening are way beneath the surface. Believe it before you see it because things are shooting upward and will show themselves soon enough!
What about YOU, though?
This is the damp, wet, cold, and messy season.
Suppose you're like me and aren't into going to a gym for indoor fitness. In that case, getting motivated to go out into the elements and get wet, dirty, and chilled to the bone can be challenging.
Damp cold is colder than subzero cold, would you agree? Subzero cold is a dry cold, and while it can be bitter and hurt your skin and make you very cold, damp cold sinks in slowly to your bones and makes it hard to warm up without a hot shower or sauna.
How can getting outside in early Spring be more enjoyable?
Ponder these thoughts for a more comfortable experience:
Layer Up! Wear a base layer, woolie socks, waterproof outerwear, and rain boots.
Hot Drinks! Warmth to the rescue with a thermos or bottle of tea, cocoa, or coffee.
Dry Clothes. Pack a pair of dry clothes for when you return to the car. This can be a game-changer!
Those simple things take you from damp and cold to warm and cozy, and you will be ready to go back out again tomorrow!
Spring will be here soon; hang in there!
